Benny's Reunion - oh, what a night!!!

Held in Sydney just before Christmas, this salute to one of the Australian Music Industry's most iconic nightclubs - Bennys - was a heart warmingly nostalgic and good humoured night, that also raised $2,500 for Support Act Ltd.

The evening began a little shyly perhaps... with lots of nods and smiles... and private head-scratching, as everyone tried to put names back on those familiar faces. With some compassion and keen interest, the war wounds and victories of life were observed - the extra 10kgs, the sheer survival of those in the room, and the deeper lines (facial only for some!). During the night, as the cocktails flowed and the memories flooded back, the night built into a magnificent affair with a chorus of chatter and laughter. The hilarity reached its peak when the club's owners Marty and Grant got up to speak! The whole audience was spellbound by their reminiscences. Wicked stories:

• about the police visiting at 4am (hours after the Licence finished) to be told in a serious, respectful and straight-faced manner that the club had stopped serving at the appropriate time, to which the Sergeant observed dryly - 'I'm not calling you a liar or anything, but there is a lot of ice in those drinks'!
• about the concern one night when it was reported that a guy had been in a cubicle with the door shut for quite some time; when questioned, he piped up that he was going to the toilet... only to be told with a gasp of horror that that was not the purpose of the room in this club!
• And, in a nod to past glory days, it was observed that there was a high number of glamorous young girls attending the reunion - the only explanation being that they had all indeed been conceived at the club!!!
