Support Act Limited, the music industry benevolent fund, are pleased to announce its inaugural “Music In The House” luncheon to be held in the Strangers Dining Room at NSW Parliament House on Thursday, September 28th, 2006.
Formed in 1997, Support Act (SAL) provides relief and assistance to members of the Australian music industry who are in need or suffering hardship, illness or distress. SAL is a registered charity and is run by a group of industry volunteers.
At the suggestion of Virginia Judge MP, it was decided that SAL should hold a fundraising lunch at Parliament House and encourage attendance by State Members to mix with representatives of the music industry. Thus “Music In The House” took shape and it was felt that this would be an ideal opportunity to honour a member of the music industry “who by their tireless effort and charitable works, have made a difference and enriched the fabric of the Australian community”.
The recipient will receive an award and a perpetual trophy has been produced which will be on permanent display in NSW Parliament House with recipients names added each year.
Recognizing the impact of music to the broader community, it is hoped that this annual lunch will create the opportunity for the music industry to interact with some State politicians.
The guest speaker at this inaugural event will be industry veteran, Michael Gudinski AM, Chairman of the Mushroom Group, and a performance by Jimmy Barnes may “lift the roof off the House”.
Meryl Gross, Chair of Support Act, commented “We are delighted with the interest shown by Virginia Judge MP for SAL and for providing this great opportunity. Through my continued involvement with SAL as both Chair and Casework Committee member, I am conscious of the increasing number of industry members who desperately need assistance. SAL’s capacity to respond depends upon our ability to raise income, and we hope this opportunity to involve politicians and other industries will assist in this regard”.
Bookings for this lunch can be made on 02 8569 1144 or email Cost is $150.00 per head and includes pre-lunch drinks, 3 course meal plus beverages from 12.00 through to 2.30pm.
