In early August some five hundred members of the music products industry gathered at AMAC, the annual music products convention in Melbourne, for the Australian Music Association Gala Awards Dinner 2008. This year a total of $3,500 was raised for industry charity Support Act Limited (SAL), a total that grew after the AMA kindly threw in the proceeds from the sales of security jackets to exhibitors as well as rounding up the figure.
There was a Support Act brochure and envelope at every guest’s place setting. The invitation to make a donation was introduced early in the evening by Brendan Callinan, Sales and Marketing Manager, Roland Corporation, past president and current Executive Committee member of the AMA, and ex-keyboard player in The Radiators, along with Support Act Victoria’s chair Keith Keith Potger. At the end of the evening, the envelopes were collected and one was drawn for the donor to receive a bottle of red wine.

Support Act Limited has now been the lucky beneficiary of the AMA’s event for three consecutive years. Support Act and its board would like to convey their appreciation for the continued assistance and kindness of the Australian Music Association and its members who have now raised over $13,500 in revenue.
Support Act currently receives no Government funding, and relies solely on donations and fundraising through events such as this. It is through the hard work and goodwill of everyone involved in such events that SAL is able to maintain its work helping those within the music industry who need assistance.
