We Get By With A Little Help From Our Friends

"We get by with a little help from our friends..." was certainly the theme at SUPPORT ACT, the Australian Music Industry Benevolent Fund’s, first national conference.

Founded 12 years ago, Support Act is a registered charity and non profit organization which raises funds to provide relief arising from hardship and/or illness amongst those working in the Australian music industry, the only benevolent fund for this purpose. Founding members include the industry's key bodies, APRA/AMCOS and ARIA/PPCA.

The conference was hosted at the APRA headquarters in Sydney and attended by the Support Act National Board and the CHAIRS from each State – Keith Potger (Victoria), Clyde Bevan (Acting Chair W.A.), David Day (South Australia), Wayne Rowley (NSW) and Wayne Budge (Queensland). These branches are all run by committees of dedicated, caring volunteers who find time to plan and present various fundraisers in their States to assist those who are less fortunate.

A stirring address from Support Act's part time Welfare Co-ordinator, Lindy Morrison, set the tone for the meeting when she read a letter expressing thanks for assistance recently received by an applicant who had been in dire straits before coming to Support Act for relief. This "anonymous" client advised "Support Act has helped me move on, from being the confidence shattered person I was (having survived my third heart attack and a period of being homeless) to finally being excited about music making again. Early last year I was still experiencing panic attacks, anxiety and depression. Even the love of music which had helped me deal with any crisis previously was slow to help me over come this. However bit by bit I have done a project here and there. Slowly I have gained more confidence and a positive outlook. I would have found it more difficult without Support Act helping me by covering costs of repairs and replacement of some of my musical gear. Also helping me afford a computer and internet access. These have helped me start new music activities which have given a new spark to my life." and "I would particularly like to thank Lindy for her understanding and caring. In some ways it was these conversations that were the most valuable contribution towards me being able to acknowledge my contribution as a musician/ sound engineer in my 30 year involvement in the music industry. When you have life threatening health problems it is not always easy to see what you have achieved and can still achieve. I have learned a lot about myself and how best to deal with my physical/psychological limitations. I am ready to live the next chapter in my musical life and forever grateful to Support Act for helping me get to this next stage" and this is indicative of the appreciation by many grant recipients who receive ongoing assistance and support from Lindy Morrison through SUPPORT ACT.

The fundraising activities now carried out by the Support Act Branches around the country will allow the organization to continue to build much needed reserves to cope with the increasing number of people falling on hard times, particularly as the population ages.

The two-day conference was an overwhelming success and Support Act Board member and National State Coordinator, Brian Cadd said

"This has been a personal dream of mine…to see all the State branches up and running, and to have their CHAIRS all in one room together with the National Board.

The interaction and brainstorming was amazing to be part of and we on The National Board now feel that SUPPORT ACT has reached a new plateau of growth and effectiveness.

Activities and consequent revenue will quickly escalate from this point on and I feel immensely grateful to the individual STATE CHAIRS and their teams of committee members who will be instrumental in facilitating this sudden and most welcome growth."

New and exciting fundraising initiatives were developed which will give the organization the opportunity to build on its current strong foundation and the long term goal is to be in a position to increase the annual assistance provided to clients to ensure their quality of life.

All applications to Support Act are treated with anonymity and the client's privacy is respected at all times. In addition to helping individuals, Support Act also assists families who may be struggling due to illness or death and any donations made specifically to Support Act to assist children are isolated from general funding and used specifically for this purpose.

Bertie Blackman One Night Charity Art Exhibition and Auction

Bertie Blackman One Night Charity Art Exhibition & Auction Thursday, 19th November 2009, 6-8pm.

Bertie Blackman undeniably is, and has always been, an artist. Her legacy has encouraged her to be nothing but, and for one night this November, she takes us into another area of her fantastic world of creativity with her first ever solo art exhibition.

Bertie allows us a peek inside the open door to her imaginary world with a selection of large scale pen and ink illustrations of her “Nanimals”; Some may say that they belong somewhere between Alice’s Wonderland and Where Maurice Sendak’s Wild Things Are, and no one would expect anything less from the daughter of Australian art world royalty, Charles Blackman & Genevieve de Couvreur.

“I like the graphic quality of using pen and ink,” Says Blackman, “I also like making “things”, building and shaping things, but drawing in black and white allows me to better interpret my characters as I see them, and for others to see.”

The host of Bertie Blackman’s exhibition, Mossgreen Gallery, is one of Australia’s most progressive galleries, representing a number of groundbreaking new and established Australian and International artists.

Bertie Blackman’s artwork will go on show for one night only, where art lovers and fans of her music alike have the opportunity to buy her original drawings. Bertie is conscious of the support that she has received from friends and family to help her shape her music career and now she has the opportunity to do the same; All profits from the sale of these original drawings will be donated to Australian music charity Support Act.

“Support Act, the Australian music industry's benevolent fund, is proud to be involved with Bertie Blackman’s Art Exhibition and Auction and we encourage Forum 5 in its development of emerging Australian talent such as Bertie Blackman. We wish her the best of luck with her ARIA nomination and great success in her career.”

The evening will include a acoustic performance by Bertie as she performs tracks from her ARIA nominated album, ‘Secrets And Lies’, available in stores now.

Throughout November and December, Bertie’s album will be available with a bonus T-Shirt bearing the design of one of Bertie Blackman’s illustrations in all participating retail stores.

Download the exhibition invite

There Is Music In The House

Minister Assisting the Premier on the Arts, Virginia Judge will today host a fundraising luncheon at Parliament House to support NSW musicians who are facing hardship or distress.

Ms Judge said the annual Music in the House luncheon raises money for Support Act Limited, an organisation aimed at helping musicians who have fallen on hard times.

”As a long time supporter of the live music industry I am very pleased to be hosting this year’s Support Act lunch,” Ms Judge said.

“Musicians play a pivotal role in giving our communities a voice and building community identity and cohesion.

“However, a career in music can be a tough slog, spending long hours on the road or following the pub circuit in a bid to make it in the industry.

“Not everyone in the music industry is lucky enough to become a household name and in an uncertain environment Support Act is a vital safety net for musicians in need of assistance.”

Ms Judge said Support Act was formed as a registered charity in 1997 by a group of concerned music industry veterans who wanted to help struggling musicians.

“The board members, most of whom volunteer their time, are an inspiring example of the caring and generosity that characterises the music industry,” she said.

“This year’s Music in the House luncheon has attracted some of the biggest names in the Australian music industry.

“Musicians Brian Cadd, Glenn Shorrock, Ian Moss, Harry Vanda and Shannon Noll and entertainers Billy Birmingham and Donnie Sutherland, as well as Country Chairman of Australasia and SVP Marketing, EMI Australasia, Mark Poston and ARIA Chairman and President and CEO of Warner Music Australasia, Ed St John.”

Ms Judge also congratulated Australian rock legend Richard Clapton who is the recipient of this year’s 2009 Excellence in Community Support Award.

“This award recognises the enormous contribution Richard has made to the community through his charitable work,” she said.

“For more than three decades he has been a household name in the Australian music industry, but today we recognise his behind-the-scenes work.

“Richard has performed free-of-charge at many events to help raise funds for those in need.

“Without community-minded individuals, like Richard, these groups would not have the funds to survive.”

Director of Support Act, Brian Cadd said Richard remained one of the most ‘loveable rogues’ in the music industry and NSW Chairman of Support Act, Wayne Rowley said today’s turnout was a tribute to Richard’s enduring popularity.

“Richard remains one of Australia’s finest ever singer/songwriters and he deserves the recognition,” Mr Rowley said.

“We are extremely grateful for the support we have received from Minister Judge and her team as well as the ongoing support of the Australian music and entertainment industries.”

Ms Judge said the State Government has supported a range of strategies to develop and sustain the music industry in New South Wales.

“Earlier this year, I held a live music forum to look at ways in which we can develop long term policies to support the industry,” she said.

“We are also in the process removing Place of Public Entertainment (PoPE) regulations to revive the live music industry and create more job opportunities and financial certainty for NSW musicians.”

Gallery from the event.

Support Act Limited Presents: "ONE OF THE BOYS" A Concert For Mick Cocks – Rose Tattoo Founder

The show could have been called 'Live and Loud' because that's what it was! On Friday July 24th 2009, the Australian music community performed a benefit show called 'One of the Boys' for Rose Tattoo guitarist & founding member Mick Cocks at the Enmore Theatre.

Mick has been diagnosed with liver cancer. Rose Tattoo has had a tragic past. Band members Pete Wells died from prostate cancer in March, 2006; Ian Rilen died from bladder cancer 6 months later & temporary member Lobby Loyde died from lung cancer in 2007.

All artists tonight gave their time. The Enmore Theatre donated the venue. All TV/Radio stations donated their air-time. Technicians and roadies all donated their craft. In the foyer was T-shirts, CD's, signed photo's/plaques and other desirable memorabilia for sale or auction. And organiser Marty Clapp reminded us that the idea for this show started only 3 weeks ago! An incredible feat to organise, stage and promote all this, in such a short amount of time!!!

On this very cold Friday night, the Enmore theatre pulled out all its ground floor seats for this 'standing room' only show. From 7pm; fans aged between 20-60; started to pour into the 'art deco' arena. Starring tonight was Cold Chisel's Jimmy Barnes, Phil Small and Ian Moss. The show also featured Rose Tattoo, You Am I, The Screaming Jets, The Radiators, Mark Gable (Choirboys), Dave Tice & Mark Evans, Chris Turner, Lucy DeSoto and Shauna Jensen.

Our MC was Glen A Baker… who did a sterling job in hosting the event…. He was never tongue tied and always had something entertaining to say as roadies and grips changed sound gear in-between acts. Dave Tice and AC/DC guitarist Mark Evans were up first, with rafter-shaking songs. Lucy DeSoto and Shauna Jensen followed with crowd pleasing rock ballads.

Within the audience, there were expectations emerging from infectious loud rumours that soon we are going to see a history making Cold Chisel reunion. …It came close, but no cigar. Jimmy, Mossy and Phil Small did go through a healthy dose of Cold Chisel classics though. Jimmy Barnes performed his solo hits 'Driving Wheels' 'No Second Prize' and 'Lay down Your Guns'. Then he sang his Chisel belter 'You Got Nothing I Want'.

Ian Moss came on to continue the Chisel flow with 'Bow River', he then did 'Georgia On My Mind' and finally Jimmy and Ian relived their finest joint vocal moment together from the Chisel days, singing 'When The War Is Over'. At one point Jimmy kissed the top of Ian's head; indicating that any rifts between them is just now a memory.

Mark Gable from the Choirboys was introduced and had the crowd rocking with "Run to Paradise". The Screaming Jets were up next to be followed by The Radiators belting out their big songs. Interwoven into all this was auctioneer/organiser Marty Clapp whose big imposing figure was hard to miss. Dressed like he was going to the beach; he periodically stopped the show for an auction. One of the items had huge interest – a large Axe, personally signed by Mark 'Chopper' Read. It raised over $2,500!

You Am I, was introduced & sang quite a few crowd pleasers. Soon the highlight was reached – Rose Tattoo live on stage… Clearly, lead singer Angry Anderson was emotional as he spoke with the audience. The boys yelled out their big songs from 'Bad boy for love' to 'We can't be beaten'. To top their set off, the Tatt's were joined Mick Cocks himself – the fans erupted with great applause. The night soldiered on…

All was done and dusted by 11.00pm. A huge amount of money was raised to help out Mick Cocks and truly a great night was enjoyed by over 1,500 people at Enmore. …Certainly Friday night was for one of the boys – Mick Cocks.

Music in the House and BridgeClimb

Several lucky prize winners from Support Act's annual Music in the House event were part of a three and a half hour 'Early Twilight' climb along the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge recently. The participants had all won BridgeClimb tickets as part of the MITH function, held annually at Sydney’s Parliament House, and were accompanied by singer Jade MacRae.

The group chose a climb that started just before four in the afternoon, which meant they also saw the city nightscape light up as the sun went down. However, there was an extra and unplanned bonus as the City of Sydney’s Vivid festival program was unfolding below. The group had the stunning backdrop of the Opera House sails, lit up by Brian Eno’s lightshow as part of his Luminous festival, to accompany them on the way back down.

Support Act would like to acknowledge BridgeClimb for its support of Music in the House and in helping Support Act raise funds.

2009’s Music in the House takes place September 30th.

New Board Members Elected

Two new members were elected to the Support Act Board at this week’s AGM, together with long standing Board member, Michael Chugg who stood down and was re-elected. These vacancies were due to the unfortunate death of Billy Thorpe and, after a stint of 10 years, Alex Coroneos stood down and did not stand for re-election.

Both new Board members bring tremendous experience and will make a great contribution to the organization. John Hansen is a 40 year veteran in the industry ranging from management in the seventies (Johnny O’Keefe and a large stable of others) to international touring (Tom Jones, Engelbert Humperdinck and Don Maclean, to name a few). John’s company was also the entertainment supplier and consultant for the Panther group of clubs for over thirty years. He has been a Board member of the Australian Entertainment Industry Association for nearly ten years and a committee member of the ACE Awards for five years.

Robert Patterson has worked in the Australian music industry in a number of roles encompassing retail, sales, marketing and A & R. He heads up ABC Music (Australia’s largest independent record label and part of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation). ABC Music is dominant in the genres of classical, children’s and country music and is a major force in the Blues & Roots genres and contemporary independent music through its relationship with Triple J.

“We are delighted to welcome John and Robert to the Board and know they will play a significant role in building this charity in the coming years” said SAL Chair, Meryl Gross. “With the launch of the Billy Thorpe Foundation we are anticipating some exciting fundraising events which will enable Support Act to follow through on Billy’s plans to provide nursing facilities for those in the industry who are seriously or terminally ill as well as continuing our assistance to those in the music industry in need.”

Support Act now has two interstate branches in Victoria and South Australia, operating under the leadership of Keith Potger (SALVIC) and David Day (SALSA) who are doing a fantastic job co-ordinating their teams of volunteers and making much needed contribution to Support Act”s funds.

Tribute

The word Tribute means a gift, testimonial or compliment given in acknowledgment of gratitude or esteem. This seemed a fitting title for the collaborative efforts of some of Australia’s finest musicians, in aid of their ailing friends – Pete Wells of Rose Tattoo and Melbourne’s Lobby Loyde. The music industry lost Pete and Lobby in 2006 and 2007 respectively.

Prior to their untimely deathes, industry friends put together two rock concerts across Sydney and Melbourne that blew everyone’s minds and hearts and ‘Tribute’ is the live recorded result. Artists featured on the record include: Billy Thorpe, Lobby Loyde, Rose Tattoo, Brian Cadd, Ian Moss, Diesel, Noiseworks, Richard Clapton, Ian Rilen, Spectrum and Russell Morris.

As a generation of much loved musicians reach ages many of them never thought they would see, sadly illness and hard times fall on many of them. Billy Thorpe was acutely aware of this and his determination to do something was heightened during the happy months he spent among his mutually-aging comrades on the ‘Long Way to the Top’ tour of 2002.

In 2005 and 2006 these two shows were put together by Billy and underwritten by Chugg Entertainment. Countless artists and roadcrew gave their time and energy to raise funds for Pete Wells and Lobby Loyde, as directed through Support Act Ltd.

Support Act Limited (SAL) was formed as a registered charity in 1997 by a group of concerned music industry veterans, including Michael Chugg, Meryl Gross and Jim White (ex Festival Records) and Lindy Morrison (Drummer for The Go Betweens) who could see that there was a definite need for an organisation to assist members of the industry who were in need or suffering hardship. Billy Thorpe became a Director of Support Act shortly before his death in 2007 and in his memory, the Billy Thorpe Foundation has now been setup. It’s specific purpose is to carry out Billy’s dream of creating purpose built spaces within existing retirement homes for music industry veterans.

This recording will benefit Support Act and the families of Pete Wells, Billy Thorpe and Lobby Loyde. All the artists on the recording have given their time and their royalties to the cause. Various industry organizations pitched in to pay for the production of this project and they need to be applauded for doing so –they include Bombora Records, Metropolitan Groove Merchants, Chugg Entertainment, Andrew McManus Presents, Acer Arena and Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Bob King and Serge Thomann Photography and Mushroom Music.

New Support Act Director Brian Cadd comments : “The tracks on this wonderful, uplifting and ultimately celebratory album have come from two extraordinary works of love. The benefit for Lobby Loyde and the benefit for Pete Wells. For our old friend and much-missed giant of Australian Rock, Billy Thorpe, it was a love for these two rock magicians that drove him to put these two concerts together. It was also a practical way to help these legendary musicians in need. And that is what lies at the heart of what Support Act stands for.”

The idea that, in an industry where the most common form of superannuation may be an old guitar or two, there are ever increasing numbers of our brothers and sisters who have fallen on hard times and need our help.

Support Act is one of the beneficiaries of the royalties earned from the sale of this music. On behalf of all of those who have given so much to audiences over the years and now or in the future may need our help, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Project Producer Amanda Pelman stated : “As manager of the Estate for Billy Thorpe, my day to day duties include maximizing Billy’s contribution to the Australian music industry now he is no longer here with us to do so. Some days it is a little like having a parrot on your shoulder – I can hear him saying ‘Put the Rilen track straight after Lobby – luv ya!’ Our relationship as friends and mutual Aries drove us in life and the beliefs and opinions he held so dear now drive me on after his death. He would have been extremely proud of this release, I know he was overwhelmed by everyone’s contributions. Now all he would say is ‘Go out and buy the fucking thing’.”

Michael Chugg, Billy’s long time friend and manager : “When Billy had an idea he didn’t let it rest until it happened. That was how it was for both the events he designed for Pete and Lobby. I was happy to underwrite both ventures in the spirit of solidarity that they were intended. On the afternoon of The Palace show, Billy was everywhere, doing everything, when he casually dropped the line ‘You’ll be doing one of these for me soon!’ Our grief is that he is sadly now included in this Tribute. Enjoy the energy in this music – the last performances from Lobby, Ian Rilen – and all too soon, from my mate Billy Thorpe.”

Angry Anderson of Rose Tattoo remembers his friend Pete Wells : “we are one less now we band of few…

it comes about me
like sweet summer rain
it lingers in me
like a soft sad pain
its around and about me
it’s there everyday
a companion melancholy
that won’t go away
everytime everytime everytime
i hear you play’

‘Tribute’ will be released through MGM Distribution and will be in store
on 6th December 2008 . The first three thousand copies will include a
bonus DVD including performances by Billy Thorpe and Lobby Loyde.

Legends of Rock Dinner raises over $12,000 for Support Act

The first, annual “Legends of Rock” dinner, ably organised by the big-hearted folks from Savage Events, was held last Friday 24th October at The Shores Function Centre in Adelaide where over 250 music lovers gathered to witness a sterling line-up of some of the genuine stalwarts of Aussie rock. Stevie Wright, back by a house band of exceptional local players, sang four Easybeats classics, GANGajang played a set packed with hits including “Sounds of Then” and “Gimme Some Lovin’”; Swanee, Tice & Evans, The Beards and Doc Neeson belted out crowd favourites and Sheridan Stewart held the show together, even though some of us were afraid her dress may not have held her together!

The purpose of the dinner was to raise money for Support Act Ltd, the benevolent fund set up by Michael Chugg & other music industry luminaries to assist music industry workers who have fallen on hard times. Wallets were emptied & there was particularly fierce bidding on the Elvis Presley car seat (yes, a piece from the seat of his Cadillac) and the Mark Evans (ex-AC/DC bassist) signed guitar. The generous dinner-ites raised well over $12,000.00 from the auction, table raffles and ticket sales which is an incredible effort in these tough economic times. Thanks to the lads from Toop & Toop who kept the auction turning over at such a fierce pace.

Chairman of Support Act Ltd SA (SALSA), David Day said, “…it was an extraordinary night that was on a par with the old Grand Prix and Clipsal 500 balls. This is going to be ‘the’ social event for SA each year as it gets bigger and better.
The establishment of a Billy Thorpe Foundation was announced by Board member Michael Chugg AM at the annual Support Act Limited “Music in the House” lunch at NSW Parliament House on 24 September. Don Spencer was awarded the 2008 honorary Support Act Limited ‘Excellence in Community Support’ award for his incredible work over the years in the industry and for his charity, The Australian Children’s Music Foundation.

At the inaugural Music In The House lunch in 2007 Billy Thorpe outlined his ambitious plans to help SAL raise substantial funds in the future to enable much broader ranges of long term help for the ever increasing number of members of the music industry who are in need or suffering hardship. Billy Thorpe joined the Board of Support Act Limited in 2007 just 2 weeks before his untimely death.

The Billy Thorpe Foundation will be administered by Support Act Limited and will seek to follow through on Billy’s vision to build the organisation’s funds by holding major events and work on specific projects to assist his contemporaries who are suffering ill health and require care.

The event featured guest speaker 2007 ARIA Hall of Fame inductee and Grammy Award winner, Helen Reddy and was also hosted by the Hon. Virginia Judge MP, Minister for Fair Trading, Minister for Citizenship, and Minister Assisting the Premier on the Arts. Rai Thistlethwayte of Thirsty Merc performed a beautiful solo performance to conclude the luncheon.

Australian Music Association Helps Support Act

Keith Potger , chair of SALVIC

In early August some five hundred members of the music products industry gathered at AMAC, the annual music products convention in Melbourne, for the Australian Music Association Gala Awards Dinner 2008. This year a total of $3,500 was raised for industry charity Support Act Limited (SAL), a total that grew after the AMA kindly threw in the proceeds from the sales of security jackets to exhibitors as well as rounding up the figure.

There was a Support Act brochure and envelope at every guest’s place setting. The invitation to make a donation was introduced early in the evening by Brendan Callinan, Sales and Marketing Manager, Roland Corporation, past president and current Executive Committee member of the AMA, and ex-keyboard player in The Radiators, along with Support Act Victoria’s chair Keith Keith Potger. At the end of the evening, the envelopes were collected and one was drawn for the donor to receive a bottle of red wine.

Keith Potger and Rob Walker, president of the Australian Music Association and National Marketing Manager, Allans Music Group.

Support Act Limited has now been the lucky beneficiary of the AMA’s event for three consecutive years. Support Act and its board would like to convey their appreciation for the continued assistance and kindness of the Australian Music Association and its members who have now raised over $13,500 in revenue.

Support Act currently receives no Government funding, and relies solely on donations and fundraising through events such as this. It is through the hard work and goodwill of everyone involved in such events that SAL is able to maintain its work helping those within the music industry who need assistance.

The SAL Board would like to thank the organizers of the Benny’s Bar 2007 Reunion night which was held in Sydney on December 5th, raising $2,500 for Support Act. It was a great night and Marty and Grant promise an even bigger event in 2008. Keep an eye on this web site for details.

Jack Daniel’s Goes On Tour With New Live Music Concert Series

Building on it’s commitment to live music in Australia, Jack Daniel’s will launch The JD Sets, a live national concert series in 2008

November 7 2007: The Jack Daniel’s name has been synonymous with live music since 1892, when its legendary founder formed the Silver Cornet Band. Styles have changed a little since then but the brand has stayed just as committed to supporting and celebrating live music and that’s why in 2008, Jack Daniel’s will launch The JD Sets, a concert series that will bring more Australian bands to more people around the country.

Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey Senior Brand Manager Jonny Croft explains, “We are really excited about The JD Sets program and the opportunity it will provide us to take recently signed bands all over Australia. Jack Daniel’s has a wonderful history and association with live music. We’re looking forward to supporting fresh new talent by getting them on the road and in front of audiences all over the country.”

To support this new initiative, Jack Daniel’s has upgraded its agency partnership and enlisted The Sound Campaign to manage the music side of the business. Jonny says, “We chose The Sound Campaign because they understand our brand and understand live Australian music. Just as Jack Daniel’s takes years to mature, we know that bands need to be supported in their development.” Jason Fielding, Director of Sound Campaign adds, “The relationship between brands and music is ever evolving and we are delighted to be working with Jack Daniel’s, who has continuously pushed the boundaries of this relationship into new and exciting projects. The JD Sets will take this to a new level again and we are really looking forward to the year ahead.”

Working with The Sound Campaign will be Chugg Entertainment. Director Michael Chugg says, “It’s always been tough for young bands out there but initiatives such as this will give them great opportunities to be heard and play to an audience bigger than those they’re used to playing in pubs around Australia. In this day and age, having partners like Jack Daniel’s make the tough realities that up and coming bands face much easier.”

Chugg Entertainment Managing Director, Matthew Lazarus-Hall goes on to say, “In past years Chugg Entertainment has always had an interest in breaking new talent, however, with our core business focused on international artists, our opportunities to work with local talent has been limited to festivals and support spots on major international tours. We are very excited about the JD Sets initiative which will give Chugg Entertainment the opportunity to continue our plight in breaking new acts, with a renewed focus in the local community”.

The JD Sets represent the next step in Jack Daniel’s significant investment in live music. The JD Sets will involve multiple bands touring both regional and metropolitan Australia throughout the year. This new program builds on the established profile of the Jack Awards and the brand’s long standing relationship with live music through its association with festivals such as the Big Day Out, Splendour in the Grass and Homebake. Jack Daniel’s is withdrawing from these festivals to focus on showcasing live Australian music through The JD Sets.

A key element of The JD Sets will be involvement with Support Act Limited (SAL) Australia’s Music Industry Benevolent Fund which provides relief and assistance to members of the Australian music industry in need or suffering hardship.

Your friends at Jack Daniel’s remind you to drink responsibly.
