SALutations - December 2009

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS AND THANKS

Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation

Support Act Receives Funding Through The Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation, Melbourne

Support Act recently received the wonderful news that the organisation had received a $20,000 grant from the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation in Melbourne, as part of its 2009 general grants program. This funding will directly benefit Support Act applicants and clients in Melbourne. The organisation and its Board are very appreciative of the support shown by the Foundation and Mr Leigh Wallace (Director, Grants & Philanthropy) and would like to take the opportunity to thank the Foundation and acknowledge this funding.

Representatives of Support Act Victoria were present at the Foundation's 'Celebration Of Giving' event on Wednesday 14 October at the Melbourne Town Hall to receive the cheque.

A Special Thank You To Bertie Blackman And Forum 5 For The Recent Show Of Bertie’s Work At Melbourne’s Mossgreen Gallery

Support Act would like to thank everyone involved and in particular Bertie, for choosing to support the organisation in this way. Bertie, an ARIA award-winning artist, had her first solo art exhibition at the gallery, where a number of her latest pen and ink drawings were auctioned with proceeds donated to Support Act.

Support Act Victoria’s Michael Snelson and Garry Spry were there on behalf of the charity, and Garry spoke about the charity and its work. Keith Potger, Chair of Support Act Victoria commented on the one night only event "Support Act, the Australian music industry's benevolent fund, is proud to be involved with Bertie Blackman’s Art Exhibition and Auction and we encourage Forum 5 in its development of emerging Australian talent such as Bertie Blackman. Support Act would also like to congratulate Bertie on her ARIA win (Best Independent Release) for 'Secrets and Lies'".

The Age 'EG Awards'

The Age 'EG Awards' Proceeds Generously Contributed to Support Act

Support Act and its Board would also like to thank The Age's EG Awards and in particular Patrick Donovan, for nominating Support Act to receive proceeds from its recent awards night, held at the Prince Bandroom in St Kilda. The legendary Painters and Dockers (original line-up) featured in their first full show in 20 years, and other guests included the EG Allstars, Tex Perkins, Henry Wagons, Bertie Blackman, Dan Sultan and the Wolfgramm Sisters, and the Dacios. Further details will be in the next newsletter, but in the meantime Support Act would like to acknowledge the ongoing generosity from the EG Awards.

Jack Daniels The JD Set

Support Act Benefits from a Substantial Contribution by Jack Daniel's The JD Set

As well as supporting the growth and diversity of new Australian music through The JD Set, Jack Daniel's provides a substantial contribution to Support Act each year from the proceeds of The JD Set gigs. This funding goes directly to help Support Act's clients, many of whom originally laid the foundations of a distinctive Australian sound. Support Act gratefully thanks Jack Daniel’s and The JD Set for championing Australian music, new and old, in such a generous manner. For more information on The JD Set, check out www.thejdset.com.au.
